Literacy Program – Read Your Bible

This project is intended for adults and school children who have just learned to read and write. Although they are in school, or have gone through literacy classes and finished their courses, the reading skills are never developed and then lost. Helping them to read the Bible is one of the best stimulants to continuous education and progress.

Currently, there are 7,000 to 10,000 students involved in 5 levels over a period of 18-24 months, in 700 classes led by 800-1000 volunteer facilitators (who receive regular training), trained and encouraged by 21 supervisors. (When program was going at full-strength, there are up to 20,000 studying. Our goal is to get back up to those numbers.) Curriculum begins with well known Bible stories and simple Bible passages and then progresses to more complex ones. At the end of each lesson there is a life application part named “Learn and abide”, which highlights an aspect of life related to the learner’s context which needs to be developed or changed in order to “live in the light”.
